What We Transport

Fresh dairy: milk, cream, yogurt, soft cheeses at +2°C to +6°C with a shelf life of 7 to 30 days. Imports from Germany/Bavaria, Poland/Mazovia, Netherlands/Frisia, and France/Brittany+Normandy; export from Latvia to Scandinavia, Germany, and Poland.

Long-life dairy: UHT milk, hard cheeses -- ambient or light-chilled at +4°C to +15°C; transported by standard or lightly chilled trucks.

Frozen dairy: ice cream, frozen butter at -18°C and below, ATP Class A or C vehicles. FTL and LTL based on batch size and shelf-life requirements.

ATP Certificate and Temperature Control

ATP (Accord on the international carriage of Perishable foodstuffs) is the international convention governing refrigerated transport. An ATP-certified vehicle with a calibrated refrigeration unit is mandatory for international dairy shipments.

Fresh products: +2°C to +6°C; deviation beyond 4 hours typically results in receiving rejection. Frozen cargo: -18°C and below with vehicle pre-cooling to -20°C before loading.

A temperature data logger is required for each shipment; data is submitted to the TRACES NT system for EU animal product notifications.

Documents: TRACES, Veterinary Certificate, CMR

Within the EU: CMR, invoice, packing list, plus batch and BBD data. Animal-origin products require registration in TRACES NT (the EU animal product notification platform).

Export outside the EU (UK, Norway): EHC (Export Health Certificate), veterinary health certificate, and BCP inspection at the entry point.

Incoterms 2020: FCA and DAP are most common for dairy flows. T1 applies for non-EU transit legs.

Delivery Windows and Distribution

Fresh dairy requires strict DC receiving windows of 30 to 45 minutes. A missed slot usually means refusal or rescheduling, which is costly with short-shelf-life products.

HoReCa and wholesale: multi-drop routes in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius, with delivery sequence structured by temperature zone and time window.

LTL consolidation from multiple EU producers is effective when temperature zones are compatible and shelf lives allow grouping.
