When Standard Shipping Becomes a Gamble
General freight handling assumes cargo can tolerate stacking, shifting, and rough treatment. Fragile items don't survive this environment:
- Shock damage: Drops, impacts, and rough handling during loading and transshipment
- Vibration damage: Road vibration over long distances affecting precision instruments and mounted components
- Pressure damage: Heavy cargo stacked on top of fragile items
- Climate damage: Temperature extremes and humidity changes affecting artwork, antiques, and sensitive electronics
- Handling ignorance: Staff who don't recognize or don't respect "fragile" markings
The insurance claim after damage doesn't restore the artwork, doesn't recover the project timeline, doesn't eliminate the customer complaint. Prevention is the only real protection.
