Why use LDM?
Loading Meters (LDM) is the standard unit for pricing LTL (Less Than Truckload) shipments in Europe. Carriers calculate costs based on how much floor space your cargo takes, not just weight.
Practical use: Before requesting a quote, calculate your LDM to compare offers fairly and avoid unexpected charges.
What is LDM?
Loading Meters Explained
Loading Meters (LDM) is the standard unit for pricing partial truck loads in European road freight. It represents linear meters of trailer floor space.
Formula:
(Length × Width) ÷ 24,000 = LDMWhere dimensions are in centimeters
1 LDM = 2.4m² of floor space (1m length × 2.4m trailer width)
Standard ratio: 1 LDM = 1,750 - 2,000 kg
Full trailer: 13.6 LDM = Complete truck load (FTL)
Pro Tip: If your cargo weighs more than 1,850 kg per LDM, you may be charged by weight instead of space.
