Live Trees: 3 Reefer Trucks from Germany to Central Asia
A Central Asian landscaping company ordered ornamental trees and saplings from German nurseries for a government park project in Astana and Tashkent. 3 reefer trucks carrying live plants needed temperature control (+4C to +8C), phytosanitary certificates, and transit permits through 6 countries. We delivered all trees alive and healthy after a 12-day journey.
What happened
Live trees die if temperature is wrong or transit takes too long. The route from Germany to Central Asia crosses 6 countries including Russia. Phytosanitary inspections at multiple borders could cause deadly delays for living cargo.
What made it difficult
- 1Live cargo - trees must stay +4C to +8C and receive fresh air
- 2Phytosanitary certificates required at each border crossing
- 3Transit through 6 countries (DE, PL, BY, RU, KZ, UZ)
- 4Russian transit permits needed - limited availability
- 512-day maximum transit before trees lose viability
How we handled it
We used reefer trucks with fresh-air ventilation systems set to +6C. Phytosanitary certificates were obtained in Germany and pre-notified to all border inspection points. Russian transit permits were secured 2 weeks in advance. Drivers were instructed to ventilate the cargo for 30 minutes at each rest stop. Border crossings were pre-cleared to minimize delays. All 3 trucks arrived in Astana and Tashkent within 12 days with 98% plant survival rate.
