Tractor Export: Latvia to Cyprus via Low-Loader and RoRo Ferry
A Latvian agricultural company sold a tractor to a farming operation in Cyprus. The machine was too heavy and wide for standard transport - low-loader required through 5 countries, then RoRo ferry from Piraeus to Limassol. We handled the full chain: oversized permits, export customs, RoRo booking, and delivery to the farm.
What happened
The tractor was 3.2m wide and weighed 12 tonnes - oversized for standard road transport in most European countries. The route crossed Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, and Greece before the sea crossing to Cyprus. Each country has different permit procedures and processing times.
What made it difficult
- 1Oversized permits required in 5 countries - 2-3 weeks lead time
- 2RoRo ferry schedule Piraeus-Limassol - limited sailings
- 3Export customs documentation for agricultural machinery
- 4Tractor must be drained of fuel for RoRo (safety regulations)
- 5Last-mile delivery on Cyprus rural roads to the farm
How we handled it
Oversized permits applied for 3 weeks before departure in all 5 countries. Tractor loaded on low-loader in Latvia, driven through Europe to Piraeus. Fuel drained at Greek port per RoRo safety rules. Ferry Piraeus to Limassol (2 days). In Cyprus, our local partner handled port pickup and final delivery to the farm on a local low-loader. Total: 14 days from Latvian seller to Cypriot buyer.
