Timber Frame Houses: 8 Oversized Trucks from Latvia to Europe
A Latvian timber frame house manufacturer exported prefab wall, roof, and floor modules for 2 houses - one to Germany, one to Spain. 8 oversized trucks carrying modules up to 13 m long and 3.5 m wide. Special permits in 5 countries, escort vehicles, and night-only transport on some routes.
What happened
Timber frame modules cannot be disassembled smaller - they must be transported at factory dimensions. Each module was 12-13 m long and 3.2-3.5 m wide. The Spanish delivery required transit through 5 countries (LV, LT, PL, DE, FR, ES) with different permit systems and schedules.
What made it difficult
- 1Modules up to 13 m long and 3.5 m wide - oversized in every country
- 2Permits needed in 5 countries with different processing times
- 3Night-only transport required in Germany and France
- 4Escort vehicles mandatory for widths above 3 m
- 5Weather-sensitive cargo - rain protection essential during transport
How we handled it
We applied for oversized permits in all countries 3 weeks before the planned dispatch. Routes were planned to avoid low tunnels, narrow bridges, and weight-restricted roads. Each truck was equipped with weatherproof covers. Escort vehicles coordinated with local police in Germany and France. The German delivery (3 trucks) arrived in 3 days; the Spanish delivery (5 trucks) in 5 days.
