Steel Pipes: 4 Heavy Trucks from Germany - Near Max Weight Every Load
A Latvian construction project needed industrial steel pipes urgently. 4 full truckloads from a German steel warehouse - each truck loaded to near maximum capacity at 24 tonnes. Steel pipes require specialized securing: chains, wedges, and anti-roll chocks. Two-day delivery, all 4 trucks arriving within a 6-hour window.
What happened
Steel pipes are round, heavy, and want to roll. At 24 tonnes per truck, any shifting during braking or cornering can be catastrophic. All 4 loads needed to arrive within a narrow window because the crane was booked for one day only.
What made it difficult
- 124 tonnes per truck - near maximum road weight limits
- 2Round cargo - specialized anti-roll securing required
- 34 trucks must arrive in 6-hour window for crane availability
- 4Steel chains and wedges for securing - driver expertise critical
- 51,400 km route - consistent speed needed to maintain schedule
How we handled it
Four experienced drivers selected - all with heavy cargo securing certification. Loading supervised: pipes stacked in pyramid formation, secured with steel chains and wooden wedges, anti-roll chocks bolted to trailer floor. All 4 trucks departed the same morning, 30 minutes apart. Route via German A2 and Polish motorways. Arrived in Latvia within a 4-hour window. Crane unloading completed same day.
