Italian Marble to Riga: 3 Heavy Trucks with A-Frame Securing
A luxury renovation project in Riga needed Italian marble slabs - Carrara white and Calacatta gold. 3 full trucks, each carrying about 22 tonnes. Marble slabs stand upright on A-frames during transport - fall over, and a EUR 200,000 slab is ruined. Unloading with suction-cup lifters required.
What happened
Each marble slab is a unique natural stone piece cut to specific dimensions for the project. Damage during transport is not just a financial loss - it adds weeks of delay waiting for a replacement to be cut and polished at the Italian quarry. The renovation contractor had a fixed completion date.
What made it difficult
- 122 tonnes per truck - near weight limits
- 2A-frame securing - slabs must not lean or shift
- 3Marble cracks from vibration or point pressure
- 4Suction-cup unloading equipment needed at destination
- 5Each slab irreplaceable - 6-week replacement lead time from quarry
How we handled it
Trucks with built-in A-frame racks assigned from our Italian partner network. Each slab secured with rubber-padded clamps - no metal contact with stone surface. Foam separators between slabs. Air-ride suspension on all 3 trucks. Route selected for smoothest road surfaces. At destination in Riga, a forklift with suction-cup attachment handled unloading - each slab placed directly into the storage area without any dragging or tilting. All 3 trucks, all slabs delivered without a single chip or crack.
