LEAP-1A Engine: Paris → Riga in 36 Hours
A LEAP-1A engine near Paris CDG. An MRO in Riga waiting for it. Between them - 2,400 km of motorways through five countries, and the route matters as much as the speed. We mapped the fastest legal corridor and delivered in 36 hours.
What happened
The MRO facility in Riga had an A320neo with its engine removed and a tight maintenance slot. The replacement LEAP-1A was confirmed available near Paris CDG - but the delivery window was under 48 hours, and the route crosses five countries with different motorway toll systems, weekend driving bans, and bridge weight limits.
What made it difficult
- 12,900 kg engine on transport stand - low-loader required
- 22,400 km through France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Latvia - each with different toll and permit rules
- 3Belgian motorway speed restrictions for oversized loads after 22:00
- 4German Autobahn sections with bridge weight limits requiring detour planning
How we handled it
We plotted three route options before choosing the fastest: A1 through Belgium avoiding Brussels ring road congestion, then E30 across northern Germany bypassing Hannover construction zones, and A2/E67 through Poland to Latvia. Toll pre-payments filed for all five countries. Fuel stops selected at stations with low-loader clearance. EASA Form 1 and CFM documentation verified with the MRO before departure.
