Helicopter Rotor Blades: Lithuania to Poland - 8m Oversized Cargo
A Lithuanian helicopter MRO completed maintenance on a set of rotor blades for a Polish operator. The blades - up to 8 meters long - needed to reach the operator's base in Poland within 24 hours. Oversized, fragile, and aviation-certified cargo requiring specialized transport and EASA documentation.
What happened
Helicopter rotor blades are aerodynamic surfaces that cannot be bent, twisted, or subjected to point loads during transport. At 8 meters, they exceed standard trailer dimensions and require an escort vehicle on certain road segments. EASA Form 1 documentation must accompany the blades - without it, the operator cannot install them.
What made it difficult
- 18m length - oversized, extending beyond trailer rear
- 2Composite material - zero tolerance for bending or point loads
- 3Escort vehicle required on Polish motorways
- 4EASA Form 1 must travel with the cargo
- 524-hour delivery window - helicopter grounded until blades arrive
How we handled it
Specialized extendable trailer with soft cradles for each blade. Blades secured horizontally with zero-pressure clamps. Escort vehicle arranged for the Polish motorway segment. EASA Form 1 package handed to the driver in a sealed document pouch. Direct route Vilnius to the Polish base - 500 km, 8 hours including border. Delivered within 12 hours of pickup. Blades installed the same day.
