CNC Machine from Switzerland: 22-Tonne Precision Equipment on Low-Loader

Switzerland - Latvia|5 days|1 low-loader (22t)

A Latvian precision engineering company purchased a CNC milling machine from a Swiss manufacturer. 22 tonnes of equipment that cannot tolerate vibration or tilting. Switzerland is not in the EU customs union - full export/import procedures required. At destination, a 50-tonne mobile crane was needed because the factory floor entrance was too narrow for a forklift.

What happened

The machine had to travel 1,800 km from Switzerland to Latvia without any vibration damage to its precision components. Swiss customs export, EU import at the German border, then transit through Germany and Poland. The factory in Latvia had a narrow entrance that ruled out forklift unloading.

What made it difficult

  • 122 tonnes - requires low-loader with air-ride suspension
  • 2Precision equipment - zero vibration tolerance
  • 3Swiss-EU customs clearance at Basel border
  • 450-tonne crane coordination at Latvian factory
  • 5Narrow factory entrance - millimeter-level positioning required

How we handled it

Low-loader with full air-ride suspension assigned. Machine bolted to the trailer bed at manufacturer-specified points. Swiss export customs cleared at Basel - 3 hours. Route through German autobahns and Polish motorways - smooth surfaces selected to minimize vibration. 50-tonne crane pre-booked at the Latvian factory. Machine lifted over the building wall and lowered through the roof opening. Positioned on its foundation with laser alignment - confirmed by the Swiss manufacturer's engineer on-site.
