Building a football facility in the Gulf means different rules - no EU customs framework, extreme heat that destroys unprotected electronics, and Ramadan work restrictions that shift port schedules. 8 sea containers with seating, turf, and steel went by ocean. Urgent LED systems and gym equipment flew by air. Two transport streams, one non-EU destination, and a climate that fights you every step.
What happened
UAE import permits operate on a completely separate system from EU customs - different documentation, local permits issued in Arabic, and approval timelines that do not follow European logic. Working hours shift during Ramadan, cutting port and warehouse operations to half-days. And electronics that survive European summers melt in 45-degree Gulf heat if the container sits on a quay for even one afternoon without protection.
What made it difficult

How we handled it
We partnered with a Dubai-based clearīng agent who handled all Arabic-language permits and port communication. Every electronic item was climate-wrapped with reflective insulation at the Chinese factory - tested to withstand 50 degrees for 72 hours. Sea containers were scheduled to arrive outside the Ramadan peak period. Air freight for urgent LED systems and gym equipment was timed to normal working hours, avoiding Ramadan half-day closures. ESMA conformity documentation was prepared in parallel with shipping so clearance started the day containers hit Jebel Ali.
