Forestry Machinery Transportation in Latvia and Europe

Our scope covers the full range of forestry machinery: harvesters (Ponsse Scorpion/Bear, Komatsu 931XC, John Deere 1270G) -- 15-25 t, often over 3 m wide; forwarders (Ponsse Elephant, Komatsu 895, LogSet 8H) -- 10-18 t; chippers, delimbers, and log trucks. Import origins include Finland (Ponsse plant in Vieremä), Sweden (Komatsu Forest HQ in Umeå), and Germany (HSM). Export from Latvia and the Baltics to western or eastern markets -- FTL for complete machines or LTL for attachments and components.

Most harvesters exceed the 2.55 m standard EU road width -- requiring oversized permits for every transit country. Typical processing times: Finland (Traficom) -- 3-5 days, Sweden (Transportstyrelsen) -- 3-5 days, Germany (Sondergenehmigung) -- 5-7 days, Latvia (CSDD) -- 2-3 days. We use low-loaders with air-ride suspension to reduce vibration impact on the machine. Permit applications start in parallel with cargo preparation.

Before loading, harvesters require: harvesting head removal or locking in transport position, articulation joint blocking, hydraulic tank draining or ADR declaration for residual oil, boom/crane securing. On the trailer, machines are fixed with steel chains and straps, with anti-slip mats under track pads. Photo documentation at loading and unloading is standard in our protocol.
